Loving Leadership in Action

Updated: Sep 30, 2022

Loving leadership isn't just referring to holding a leadership position at church. Wherever a follower of Jesus is – at home, at school, in the office, on the playground or in church – he or she, young or old, is leading.

At the heart of Christian leading is the ability to help others know who God is, and how to have a lifelong relationship with Him.

Often the difficulty is that Christians believe they must be teaching the commandments or the rules or the traditions of their Church. There is a time and place for this, but the truth is that one of the most important things a Christian can do is resemble, reflect

and reveal the character of God to the world around them moment by moment, day by day, time after time.

For Christians, resembling, reflecting and revealing the character of God should become as natural as breathing. By loving God themselves, by daily deepening their relationship with Him as they continue to get to know Him, they will begin to automatically reveal the fruit of the Spirit in their daily interactions with others.

Depending on the events happening in the moments of their daily living, they will easily call upon what dwells inside them, for it is out of the heart that the mouth speaks.

  • Loving leadership speaks love and expresses joy.

  • Loving leadership resembles Jesus’ character of peace.

  • Loving leadership exhibits patience in the situations that need it, and kindness in conflict.

  • Loving leadership reveals goodness, proceeds with gentleness, and reflects faithfulness.

  • Loving leadership models and mentors self-control.

Why does loving leadership look like this? Because God’s character is love and the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

Father, here’s our prayer. Please help us to be loving as leaders. Help us to truly understand who You are, how loving You are. Help us to resemble, reflect, and reveal Your beautiful character to those around us. I ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus. Amen.
